Gender & Identity in the Global South

78

When: August 11-14, 2015

Where: Copenhagen, Denmark

Humanity in Action Denmark is excited to announce the program for Gender & Identity in the Global South. Six LGBT activists have been invited to Denmark from Kenya, Uganda and Pakistan to discuss Gender & Identity in the Global South during Copenhagen Pride week and with local high school students.

The project aims to deal with the challenges faced by LGBT people in the Global South through focusing on what the global community can learn from their best practices, developing methods to best support their work and learning how to ensure LGBT inclusion strategies are intergrated into development policy work and programs.

The project will delve into a range of issues and current events, including the living conditions of transgender people in Pakistan, the latest development in Uganda and the presentation of LGBT issues in Kenya to foreign dignitaries. The event series will also discuss the relationship between religion and minority rights in Africa as well as investigate the right to asylum for LGBT people.

The debates will take place in Pride Square (Regnbuepladsen) from August 11 to 14. During the second week, activists will visit Greve Gymnasium, Efterslægtens HF, Nørre Gymnasium and Zahles Gymnasium to discuss with local youth what Gender & Identity means in the Global South.
