Born and raised in The Bronx, New York, Joel is a graduating senior at Lafayette College with a double major in Film and Media Studies and International Affairs with a concentration in International film and Activism. He also spent two semesters abroad at Goldsmiths College in London and at the Film and Television School at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Joel is a co-founder of the Lafayette Association of Film Students and is a volunteer filmmaker at Judith’s Reading Room, a non-profit organization, where he is shooting a documentary film concerning the access to literature for at-risk youth in urban communities in Portland, OR and Easton, PA. Joel is also a filmmaking workshop leader at local public schools and has recently traveled to McAllen, Texas to explore issues of immigration reform in conjunction with ASB, Lafayette and LUPE. In his spare time, Joel contributes to Lafayette faculty led filmmaking initiatives as a research assistant, having a film he contributed to screen at the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater in NYC in 2012. After Lafayette, Joel will participate in a Fulbright program to the UK where he will pursue an MA in documentary film and upon returning to the US, an MFA in narrative film and television Production at the USC: School of School of Cinematic Arts
